Redcar have been forced to cancel two races scheduled to be run on the round course at next Wednesday’s meeting.

The Turf Tv Betting Shop Stakes and the Redcar Conference Centre Claiming Stakes, both over 10 furlongs, have been abandoned.

Officials made a similar decision ahead of their last meeting resulting in six races on the straight course, but it was only announced at short notice.

However, chief executive Neil Etherington was keen to make the announcement earlier this time.

“We are going to replace them and the details will be announced by the BHB - it’s the same situation as we were in last Sunday,” said Etherington.

“The straight course is perfectly raceable but the back straight has had a drenching so its better to be safe than sorry.

“Last time we got the entries in as we thought we might get away with it but it couldn’t be avoided. This time we’ve looked at the forecast and thought it would make everybody’s life easier.”
