Lucky thirteen left in Oaks
German raider Scatina is among 13 fillies left in the HBLB Lancashire Oaks at Newmarket on Wednesday.
Mario Hofer’s charge made all the running to win at Cologne in May and is the sole foreign challenger in the Group Two contest – switched from its traditional Haydock home following the abandonment of Saturday’s meeting.
Scatina is just one of three members of this year’s Classic generation taking on their elders. The others are Henry Cecil’s Brisk Breeze and Fiumicino, trained by Mick Channon.
Last season’s Classic form is represented by John Best’s Rising Cross, placed in the English and Irish Oaks, while Mont Etoile won the 2006 Ribblesdale Stakes.
James Given’s prolific winner Trick Or Treat goes for a first Group triumph, while Alan Swinbank runs Turbo Linn.
The four-year-old won five consecutive bumpers before maintaining her 100% record on her Flat debut with a 10-length romp in a Catterick maiden.
The other fillies hoping to get some black type are Dash To The Front, Dont Dili Dali, Litalia, Portal, Under The Rainbow and Wassfa.
