Fallon lands Chantilly mount

Kieren Fallon will have his first ride in France on Sunday since testing positive for a metabolite of a prohibited substance in the country last year.

He will take the reins aboard the Jean-Marie Beguigne-trained Spirito Del Vento, who tackles the Group Three Prix du Chemin de Fer du Nord at Chantilly, in which Lockinge Stakes third Passager also runs.

Connections of Fallon’s mount see this as an opportunity to reward the jockey after he played a part in choosing the path taken by French Derby hero Lawman.

“When Lawman made his debut, Kieren Fallon was the rider and would have been if he had been available this season,” explained Beguigne.

“When he jumped off the colt at Saint-Cloud, he told me that Lawman would definitely be the winner of a Derby, and his judgement was totally correct.

“To reward and thank Fallon, Enrico Ciampi, one of the owners, decided to put him up on Spirito Del Vento,” he told the Racing Post.

Beguigne also suggested Lawman could step back in trip to a mile in the near future, despite outpointing 19 rivals over two and a half furlongs further last time.

He added: “The colt has come out of the Jockey-Club in great shape. He could run in the Prix Jean Prat, as it is just for three-year-olds and back at Chantilly.”
