Punters plunge on Yeats

Yeats is now an odds-on chance with a number of bookmakers to repeat last year's victory in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on June 21.

Yeats is now an odds-on chance with a number of bookmakers to repeat last year's victory in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on June 21.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained six-year-old was an effortless winner of the stayers' crown 12 months ago, cruising home four lengths clear of Reefscape under Kieren Fallon.

His two runs this season, in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan and the Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown, have both been successful.

Coral go 4-5 from even-money, with spokesman David Stevens saying: "Despite the presence of the popular Sergeant Cecil as Gold Cup second-favourite, it's a one-horse book as far as we're concerned, with Yeats being backed with extreme confidence at present."

Bet Direct cut the son of Sadler's Wells to 5-6 from evens.
