Dettori in change of heart

Frankie Dettori has had a change of heart and ’will back up 100%’ whatever decision Peter Chapple-Hyam makes regarding Authorized’s next race.

In the immediate aftermath of his startling victory in the Derby, Dettori indicated he would prefer to head for the Budweidser Irish Derby at the Curragh.

However, Chapple-Hyam stated a wish to take on older horses and revert back to 10 furlongs for the Coral-Eclipse at Sandwown, a decision the Italian now says he will fully support.

“Authorized won the Dante over 10 furlongs and the Racing Post Trophy over a mile at two, and having watched the Dante again, I’d say he’d have no bother dropping back in distance,” said Dettori.

“He ran just as good a race in the Dante as the Derby, in which he again showed a great turn of foot.

“Only time will tell if he’s good enough (to beat older horses), but the likes of High Chaparral and Lammtarra managed to do it.

“If I get to ride Authorized in the Eclipse or the Irish Derby, I’ll just be delighted to be part of the dream still. I’ll just let it unfold. I do not want to be part of the planning. Peter is the trainer and I have total confidence in his decision – I’d back him up 100%.”

Meanwhile, Dettori’s French Derby winner Lawman could travel to Ireland for the Irish Champion Stakes on September 8.

“Lawman is fine after the race and had a nice walk this morning,” trainer, Jean-Marie Beguigne told the Racing Post.

“He will now be given a rest and then we will concentrate on enhancing his European reputation, so he may go for a race like the Irish Champion Stakes.”
