Drama at Ballinrobe

Pat Smullen was in terrific form at Ballinrobe this evening with victories in all three Flat races on the card – but Willie Supple was in hot water after riding a finish a circuit too soon in the Supermac’s Ballinrobe Claremorris Handicap.

The latter was on the well-backed North Shore in the two-mile contest but went for home a mile out before realising his mistake and eventually trailing in a well-beaten fifth as his mount dropped back through the field.

The stewards took a dim view and banned Supple for 14 days.

The race went the way of the Smullen-ridden 9-4 favourite Jawad, trained by Joanna Morgan, who had three lengths to spare over Glinsk.

Smullen had struck earlier in the Tipperary Water Fillies Maiden on 15-8 second-favourite Lady Teabing for his boss Dermot Weld and he notched a swift double when the Morgan-trained Closetocrazy (7-2 favourite) bagged the Eamon Sheridan Plant Hire Handicap.
