Fonthill on course for Greenlands

Richard Fahey is keen to run Fonthill Road in the Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

Fahey has earmarked the Group Three event for his sprinter in the hope that there will be enough juice in the ground to enable him to be competitive.

Last year’s Ayr Gold Cup winner finished only three lengths behind Amadeus Wolf in the Duke Of York Stakes last week, and Fahey hopes the stiffer track at the Curragh will play to his strengths.

“I will see what the ground is like but I’m quite keen to run him – he is fine,” said Fahey.

“They are supposed to get a bit of rain at the end of the week and as long as it is genuine good ground I will take him.

“We had no real excuses last week. He was just run off his feet early on and he made ground late. The Curragh takes a bit of getting so hopefully it may slow the others down a bit.”
