Nannina comeback delayed

Coronation Stakes winner Nannina misses her intended engagements this weekend on account of the soft ground.

The four-year-old held entries in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp.

John Gosden's high-class filly is a different proposition when she can hear her hooves rattle but conditions in Berkshire and Paris dictated she will have to wait to make her seasonal reappearance.

"We've bypassed Newbury and we have bypassed Paris so we will wait and see where she goes," said Chris Richardson, racing manager for Nannina's owners Cheveley Park Stud.

"There is a race at Epsom that we might consider (Princess Elizabeth Stakes, June 1) where she wouldn't have a penalty, or it might be the Brigadier Gerard (Sandown, May 31), where she would have a penalty.

"She much prefers top of the ground and Royal Ascot is her main target and we hope to get a run in to her before then.

"We are still not quite sure which race she will go for at Ascot as we have plenty of options with the fillies.

"We will certainly be stepping her up in trip at some stage and Newbury would have been a perfect starting point for her but it was not to be.

"She was brilliant at Ascot last year and even late on last season she was in against top-class fillies."
