Street on Triple Crown mission
Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense is set to travel to Pimlico on Wednesday as he chases victory in the second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown.
Carl Nafzger’s charge is set to line up in Saturday’s Preakness Stakes after his two-and-a-quarter-length success over Hard Spun at Churchill Downs.
Big-race rider Calvin Borel was aboard the Street Cry colt on Tuesday morning as he impressed connections in a five-furlong breeze.
“He wanted to go faster than he did, but he just listened to Calvin,” Nafzger said.
“He’s a fitter horse now and he’s a happy horse. He was a very happy horse when he walked off the track.
“I don’t think he was even taking a deep breath. His sides were just normal. It was time to go home.”
Derby Trial Stakes winner Flying First Class also had a spin ahead of the Preakness at Churchill, covering four furlongs for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
“We didn’t want to do a whole lot, but we got it right on the money,” Lukas told www.thoroughbredtimes.com.
