Noseda gets his wish in Brighton meet

A rare trip to Brighton for Jeremy Noseda and Frankie Dettori paid off when Express Wish steamed away with the friday-ad.co.uk Maiden Stakes.

A rare trip to Brighton for Jeremy Noseda and Frankie Dettori paid off when Express Wish steamed away with the friday-ad.co.uk Maiden Stakes.

Sent off the 4-9 favourite after finishing a good second at Lingfield last month, the colt justified his odds with authority, making all the running and skipping clear with two of the six furlongs to run. Spiffing was five lengths in arrears at the line.

“Frankie said he did it very easily and it was never in doubt,” Noseda told At The Races.

“He handled the track well and put it to bed between the three-furlong and the two-furlong marker.

“I’m happy and relieved – he won how he should have done.”

The Danehill Dancer colt holds an entry in the Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas but is unlikely to take it up.

Noseda added: “It (the entry) was done a long time ago and it is very unrealistic at this stage.

“He is a horse I like and I hope over time he will take the steps to becoming a solid performer.”

The sea fret that often plagues Brighton was in evidence again over the course of the afternoon, appearing for almost every race and making only the final furlong or so visible to spectators.

There was a shock in the Hardings Bar & Catering Services Selling Stakes, which went to the 40-1 shot Magroom, trained in Epsom by Brent Johnson.

Promising apprentice Jack Mitchell, son of another Epsom handler, Philip, showed off his skills to hold on to the Weatherbys Printing Handicap aboard 10-1 chance Legal Lover.

Martin Dwyer took the Bet365.com Best Odds Guaranteed On Every Race Handicap on John Hills’ 5-2 favourite Caucasienne.
