24 remain in 2000 guineas
Teofilo’s shock withdrawal from the Stan James 2000 Guineas has left a field of 24 set to line up for Saturday’s first Classic at Newmarket.
Jim Bolger’s unbeaten star had been at the top of the betting over the winter but was pulled out after meeting with a setback.
Michael Stoute’s Craven Stakes winner Adagio is now the sponsors’ 3-1 favourite, with crack French representative US Ranger a 4-1 chance.
Of the other five absentees from the five-day stage, Godolphin have taken out their promising colt Mofarij and rely on Truly Royal.
Aidan O’Brien removed one of his four entries – Mount Nelson – and will have Duke Of Marmalade, Eagle Mountain and Yellowstone running for him.
Teofilo’s expected pacemaker Slaney Time, Big Robert and Mastership were also not declared.
They include the ultra-impressive Newbury maiden winner Diamond Tycoon, Greenham Stakes first and second Major Cadeaux and Dutch Art as well as Strategic Prince – a leading two-year-old who has again become a force in the Guineas betting in recent days.
