Cox considers Kempton for Dansili

Dansili Dancer is set to reappear in one of Kempton’s feature races this Saturday – but trainer Clive Cox is still undecided which one.

The five-year-old developed into a useful middle-distance handicapper last term, beating Fairmile in the totesport.com Stakes at Haydock before running a close fourth in the John Smith’s Stakes at Newbury.

Dansili Dancer could either take centre stage in the big handicap – the intercasino.co.uk Rosebery Stakes – or move to Listed class in the Magnolia Stakes.

“I’m not sure which he’ll run in, I am just checking out a few ideas,” said Cox.

“He has done very well over the winter but I am a little bit uncertain as to which way to go.

“He has worked on the Polytrack before but is a horse that does not like too much ease in the ground.

“I’d prefer to be running on the turf really.”

Cox also had news of one of last season’s stable stars, Dunelight, who was a fine third to Ivan Denisovich at the Curragh last September – as well as taking second in the totesport Mile.

Last in the Cambridgeshire on his final start, Cox pencilled in a first outing at the forthcoming Newmarket Craven Meeting for Dunelight’s seasonal bow.

“He’s making very good progress and will possibly make his reappearance in the Earl Of Sefton at Newmarket,” said the Hungerford trainer.

“He did really well last season and his rating of 107 is too big for handicaps so he is going to be making the next step.”
