Top trainer title for Johnston

Mark Johnston emerged victorious in the race to be crowned champion trainer as the all-weather season reached its climax this afternoon.

The English handler clinched the Bonusprint.com award when Hinton Admiral landed the betdirectuk.com Spring Cup at Lingfield Park, which was worth £42,585 (€62,800) to the winner.

Johnston takes the first prize of £15,000 (€22,000), plus £7,500 (€11,000) for his stable staff, while Kevin Ryan receives £10,000 (€15,000) with £5,000 (€7,400) for his staff, and the third, Richard Hannon, gains £5,000 (€7,400) and £2,500 (€3,700) for his team.

Johnston maintained pole position for much of the campaign, sending out 44 winners and securing over £224,000 (€331,000), compared to Ryan’s 32 winners and prize-money haul of over £174,000 (€257,000).

The jockeys’ title, worth £12,000 (€17,700), went the way of Neil Callan for the fourth time, with the 28-year-old reclaiming his crown he relinquished to Eddie Ahern last year.

Callan bagged 60 winners, 10 more than runner-up Joe Fanning, and 19 more than third-placed Dane O’Neill. Fanning collects £6,000 (€8,800) and O’Neill receives £4,000 (€5,900).
