Hogan eyes dual Curragh bid

Tom Hogan could be double-handed in the Ladbrokes Irish Lincolnshire on the opening day of the Irish Flat season at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Co Tipperary trainer confirmed Common World as a definite starter and may also saddle Kalderon, sixth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last week.

“Common World is in good form but he normally needs his first run so we’ll see how he is after Sunday,” said Hogan.

“Kalderon came back very well from Cheltenham so we made an entry for him in the Irish Lincoln at the weekend.

“He just didn’t come down the hill well at Cheltenham, but he still ran a blinder.”

Kalderon, winner of a Listed race at Tralee on his last run on the Flat in September, is also in the William Hill Lincoln at Newcastle on Saturday week.

He is 16-1 with the sponsors for the £100,000 (€147,000) - added Heritage Handicap.

“We will make up our minds later in the week but he’s unlikely to run in both Lincolns,” the trainer continued.

Hogan has another Newcastle possible in Rockie, who is on the way back following a setback.

“I won’t be sure about Rockie running at Newcastle until later on in the week. He’s had a little muscle problem,” he added.

“He did a little bit this morning and I’ll work him twice more before I make up my mind where he’s going.

“He’ll probably work on Wednesday morning and on Saturday. I’ll make up my mind about the Lincoln after that.”
