Cregg back for more

Cregg House is to have his first run since being brought out of retirement at Newcastle on Saturday.

The veteran was put out to grass last summer by trainer Shane Donohoe but did not like the easy life and returns to action in the totescoop6 handicap chase.

The 12-year-old enjoyed his finest hour when springing a 50-1 surprise in the 2005 Topham Chase over the Grand National fences and is again being aimed at the Aintree race in April.

“He’s in brilliant form. I had him retired but he didn’t like it out in the field so I brought him back in,” said the Cavan-based handler.

“Cregg would prefer good ground, but his aim is the Topham again this year,” said Donohoe.

“Hopefully we’ll get Newcastle into him and another run after that, then that will be it before Liverpool.

“He’s a lovely old horse, he doesn’t owe us anything but he enjoys being in training and he’s a one-off.

“While he’s enjoying it I’ll keep him going, but as soon as he shows he isn’t anymore he’ll be taken out of training.”
