Kyber proves hard to pass

Richard McGrath rode a finely-judged race to bring the Jim Goldie-trained 10-1 chance Kyber home in front in the Foster’s Super Chilled Handicap at Musselburgh.

McGrath was clearly confident his mount would stay the two and a half miles and the six-year-old made virtually all the running, keeping up the gallop well in the straight to beat Or De Grugy by four lengths.

Goldie said: “Kyber came to me from Roger Fisher and he had finished third in a race here last year, but he wants this ground (basically good to firm) – when he ran here last month for us the going was very loose.

“So we decided to let him use his stride and he did it well. I think he will win on the Flat too.”

Sadly, Irish raider Another Deckie, who finished seventh, collapsed and died as he made his way off the course.
