Promising chaser Darkness has sustained a tendon injury which will force him to miss the whole of the current campaign.

The Charles Egerton-trained eight-year-old was successful four times as a novice last season, when victory in the Grade One Feltham Novices’ Chase provided the undoubted highlight.

Having followed that fine triumph by finishing third behind Star De Mohaison at the Cheltenham Festival, Darkness was then sent off at 12-1 for the Scottish National but failed to fire and was eventually pulled up.

He has not been seen on the racecourse since, and it was yesterday revealed that he will remain on the sidelines for the rest of the current season at least.

“Unfortunately, Darkness picked up a tendon injury in October and he won’t run this season. Hopefully, he’ll be back next year,” Egerton told the Racing Post.
