Ungaro pencilled in for Feltham
Ungaro appears the most likely of Sir Robert Ogden’s pair to take part in the Stan James Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, although he could still be joined by According To John.
The former, trained by Keith Reveley, is more versatile with regard to the going, having brought his record over fences to two from two with a win on good ground at Huntingdon last time.
Meanwhile, the Nicky Richards-trained and still unbeaten According To John prefers a more testing surface, having won his novice chases at Kelso and Carlisle on the heavy.
“A lot depends on ground conditions,” said Ogden’s racing manager Barry Simpson.
“According To John needs soft ground ideally, and if the forecast is right and it is dry there, there is not a lot of fresh ground and it might get quick.
“Both trainers are keen to run and they’ve both had a couple of good wins - it is time to step up the ladder.
“We’ll just have to see what happens with the ground.”
