Knowhere to run

Nigel Twiston Davies hopes his progressive eight-year-old Knowhere is improving rapidly enough to lift the boylesports.com Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The gelding has made just six appearances since winning a novice hurdle by a distance on his racecourse debut in 2004, but comes into this weekend’s valuable contest on the back of a good run at Ascot.

Having won two novice events over fences in the autumn, Knowhere was sent off a well-supported 17-2 chance in Cheltenham’s Paddy Power Gold Cup, but got no further than the eighth fence.

He showed himself to be none the worse for that mishap at Ascot last time, however, when chasing home Cerium in a competitive Grade Two handicap.

Regarding this weekend’s target, Twiston-Davies said: “Knowhere is fine and he’s an intended runner on Saturday.

“Everything’s gone to plan with him since his last run and this race doesn’t look quite as competitive as the Paddy Power did, so I’m hoping for a good run.

“He’s lightly-raced and he jumps well normally so there are no worries on that score.”
