World in motion
Material World heads to Cheltenham on Friday before making her eagerly-awaited chasing bow in “two or three weeks”.
Suzy Smith’s smart hurdler is set to line up in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle rather than take her chance in the Grade Two Mears Group “Relkeel” Hurdle at Prestbury Park on Saturday.
Material World, who contracted a fungal infection in an eye which had to be removed, made a pleasing return to action in February when third in the Grade Three Sandown Handicap Hurdle.
The eight-year-old mare then lowered the colours of the useful Gungadu before taking second place in a Listed event at Aintree in April.
“The thinking behind the Pertemps is for her to get a good run over hurdles before we go chasing,” said Smith.
“If she does well there then at least we’ll be eligible for the (Pertemps) Final.
“Cheltenham holds no fears for her even though it’s left-handed because she’s already run at places like Newbury – she’s just so tough.
“She’s schooled so well over fences and should be a completely different horse over them.
“We wouldn’t want it too heavy ground for her but we’ll give it two or three weeks and then get her out chasing on a small course.”
