Sleeping Indian, runner-up in the VC Bet Challenge Stakes at Newmarket 12 months ago, went one better in the Group Two opener on Champions Day.

The 9-2 favourite was in a good position by halfway and leading over a furlong out in the hands of Jimmy Fortune, John Gosden's charge powered up the hill.

He went on to win by a length from Killybegs, who held Satchem for second place by a head.
