Detroit heads Cesarewitch field
Ante-post favourite Detroit City heads a field of 32 declared for Saturday’s totesport Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
Philip Hobbs’ Triumph Hurdle winner booked his place in the two-mile-two-furlong handicap feature with a comfortable win in a charity race at Chepstow last week.
His main market rivals, Sir Mark Prescott’s Key Time and the David Elsworth-trained Saint Alebe, have also stood their ground along with Jamie Poulton’s Theatre.
Neville Callaghan lets Finalmente take his chance but George Moore’s Numero Due has been ruled out.
The four-year-old had been well backed in recent days but a mishap on the gallops means he will sidestep the event.
Moore explained: “He kicked himself at exercise. It’s just a bruise but he vet said he will not run.
“We hope it’s nothing too serious but only time will tell. It’s such a shame though as we really fancied him.”
Len Lungo will launch a double raid from his Carrutherstown base with Mirjan and Monolith, while other notable declarations include Whispering Death, Lets Roll, Lightning Strike and top weight Baddam.
