Words bounces back
Barry Hills' Thousand Words bounced back to form with devastating effect to land the Group Three Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket.
The Dansili colt had disappointed on his last start in the Champagne Stakes behind Vital Equine at York after winning on his first two racecourse appearances, but he redeemed his reputation in some style.
Settled no more than two lengths off the pace by Richard Hughes, the 15-2 chance quashed all suggestions that he could not act on soft ground with a smart turn of foot with a furlong and a half to run.
As the pacesetting St Philip weakened, Dijeerr and the Irish representative Ferneley laid down their challenge but Hughes always looked confident and it was not misplaced.
He shot clear in the style of a smart animal and quotes of 20-1 from 25-1 for the 2000 Guineas with totesport and 25-1 from 40-1 with Bet 365 might not look wide of the mark.
âHe was better behaved down at the start today,â said Hills.
âHe was never confident on the ground at York, itâs not called the Knavesmire for nothing.
âWe didnât take too much notice of that run as we knew it wasnât his running. Heâs a very decent horse and heâs still immature.
âIf he runs again this season it will be in the Dewhurst. If he pulls out well in the morning we will have to consider it as there is nothing else for him really."
