Dutch delivers at Deauville
Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Dutch Art maintained his unbeaten record with a stylish win in the Group One Darley Prix Morny at Deauville.
Winner of the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on his last start, Dutch Art hit the front with a furlong to run and he kept on well under Christophe Soumillon for a smooth success.
Neville Callaghan’s Excellent Art also ran a fine race but was just run out of second place in the shadow of the post by Magic America.
Soumillion, standing in for regular partner Alan Munro, was always travelling well aboard Dutch Art, sitting in behind front-runner Sandwaki.
As Sandwaki dropped back, Dutch Art hit the front and although Excellent Art and Magic America came out of the pack to challenge, they never looked like catching the winner.
William Hill were impressed enough to slash Chapple-Hyam’s colt to 16-1 from 25-1 for next year’s Stan James 2000 Guineas.
