Pivotal to prove his point

Peter Makin is hoping his tough and consistent speedster Pivotal Point can land Sunday’s Patrick P.O’Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh.

The Pivotal gelding ran out a cosy winner of a Group Three event at Sandown two starts ago before finishing a close-up eighth in the July Cup last time.

Makin reports all preparations to have gone according to plan and hopes his charge can emerge the pick of the seven British entries.

“Everything has gone smoothly since the July Cup and there have been no problems or hold-ups,” he said.

“He’s in good order and he’s run well all year – he had a moderate draw in the July Cup and in the Golden Jubilee but in between he ran really well.

“I think he wants six furlongs now or a stiff five like Ascot or Sandown.

“It does look an open race but to be fair I wish Moss Vale hadn’t gone!

“Fayr Jag and Red Clubs were behind us in the July Cup but there is probably only three or four pounds between most of them.”
