Pitt not appealing Thirsk fine

Bawtry-based trainer Tim Pitt will not appeal against the decision by the Thirsk stewards to fine him £6,000 (about €9,000) over the running and riding of Jordan’s Light on Saturday.

The local officials held an inquiry into why the three-year-old gelding had, in their view, appeared to be tenderly ridden throughout when beaten no more than four lengths in the Racing UK Handicap.

Pitt was found in breach of Rule 155 and jockey James O’Reilly in breach of Rule 157.

The 7lb claimer was suspended from riding for 30 days (August 16-September 14), while Jordan’s Light was banned from running for 40 days (August 8-September 16) after finishing sixth in the one-mile handicap.

Rupert Arnold, chief executive of the National Trainers’ Federation, said: “He confirmed to me today he won’t be appealing.”
