German raider Boccassini ran out a narrow winner of the Group Two Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte.

The Artan filly responded well to jockey Davy Bonilla’s urgings and hit the front inside the final furlong, having made her challenge down the centre of the track.

Three-time winner Golden Titus had taken up the running approaching the final quarter of a mile and seemed to have established a winning lead only to be overhauled late on.

Magic America flew home to grab third while British raiders Not For Me and Evens And Odds failed to mount a serious challenge in the five-and-a-half-furlong contest.

Bonilla said of the winner: “She went really well but it wasn’t an easy ride.

“I imagine we will now go for the Prix Morny at Deauville in August.”
