Alibi possible for France

Irish Derby third Best Alibi could renew rivalry with Curragh fourth Dragon Dancer in the Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday.

Michael Stoute’s charge was a length and a half in front of his rival in the Irish Classic and connections are pondering a tilt at this weekend’s 10-furlong Group Two contest.

Owned by Gainsborough Stud, Best Alibi had previously finished sixth in the Vodafone Derby, four places behind Dragon Dancer, and he holds entries in the Juddmonte International at York on August 22 and the totesport Celebration Mile at Goodwood later that month.

“He could go for the Prix Eugene Adam this weekend but there are no other definite plans. It all depends on what Sir Michael wants to do,” said Gainsborough spokesman Bruce Raymond.

“He has a few entries and is in the International. That would be his distance, but he won’t be taking up his engagement in the Celebration Mile. That is too short.”
