Lunch to appeal ban

Fergal Lynch is the last of three jockeys to appeal against the British Horseracing Regulatory Authority’s decision to ban him from riding in Britain until the conclusion of any criminal proceedings.

Lynch, along with Kieren Fallon and Darren Williams, was last week charged with conspiracy to defraud Betfair customers following an exhaustive police investigation into alleged race-fixing.

Last Friday all three appeared before a special panel of the HRA, who made an order prohibiting them from riding in races in Britain “until the conclusion of the trial or further orders”.

“Lynch has appealed but there’s no date set yet,” said HRA spokesman Owen Byrne.

Williams lodged his appeal earlier in the week but a date has yet to be arranged.

Fallon has already appealed and failed to overturn the decision. However, the six-times champion intends to take his case to the High Court.
