Generosia strikes Haydock gold

Generosia has been knocking on the door in her two most recent runs but she eventually came good in the Haydock Park Badgeholders Club Fillies’ Handicap at the Merseyside venue.

The Andrew Balding-trained three year-old went to the front with two furlongs to run and she looked to have the race in safekeeping.

But Patxaran, who appeared to be struggling, found a second wind and ran on to such purpose that Generosia (4-1) and jockey Francis Norton had only a head to spare at the line.

Balding was represented by his assistant, former jump jockey Chris Bonner, who said: “It is pleasing that she has won a race now and we may try and look for some black type.

“Franny gave her a lovely ride, although he said he may have been better if he had waited another furlong before he went because she idled a bit in front.”
