Toldo fulfils Plate dream

Local owner John Armstrong realised a lifetime ambition when bargain buy Toldo carried his colours to victory in the £200,000 John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

The gallant grey battled to a narrow success in the big two-mile handicap under a positive ride from Brazilian apprentice Nelson de Souza, who was paying his first visit to Gosforth Park.
