Late scare for Dwyer

Martin Dwyer suffered a scare on the eve of the Vodafone Derby when he was thrown from his mount Siren’s Gift before the first race at Bath this evening.

The rider, who is due to partner 2000 Guineas runner-up Sir Percy in the blue riband at Epsom tomorrow, was unshipped from the Andrew Balding-trained filly in the paddock and stood down for the rest of the card.

“I haven’t spoken to him but I have spoken to Andrew Balding. I understand he got winded and signed himself off for the rest of the night. But I’m sure there will not be a problem for riding tomorrow,” said his agent Gareth Owen.

“With a big today coming up there is no point in taking chances and I’m 100 per cent sure he will ride tomorrow.”
