Odyssey likely for Epsom

Olympian Odyssey, third in the Stan James 2000 Guineas, is likely to tackle the Vodafone Derby rather than run in France.

Owner Bill Gredley and trainer Barry Hills have the choice of running in the Epsom Classic on Saturday week or heading for the French equivalent at Chantilly a day later.

Gredley told the Racing Post: “We are leaning toward Epsom but with the caveat that if France were a lot easier we would go there.

“We genuinely believe that he is a very good mile-and-a-quarter horse, but like most of the Derby horses – at the moment – we don’t know if he is a mile-and-a-half horse. Jamie Spencer has said that he will ride him for us wherever he goes.”

Olympian Odyssey finished four lengths behind George Washington at Newmarket and has won once in five starts.
