Rain claims Beverley card

Beverley’s meeting on Tuesday has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Course officials were due to inspect at 3pm this afternoon, but another deluge over the East Yorkshire track left them with no option but to abandon.

“We called an inspection for 3pm as we weren’t due any more rain until later on today,” said Sally Iggulden, racecourse manager.

“But it started raining at 11 o’clock and we had five millimetres in half an hour which took it beyond doubt.

“The course is waterlogged in several places and it is not going to dry out in time. We are due another half an inch later today so there is no hope I’m afraid.”
