Tregoning taking things slowly with Percy

Marcus Tregoning is to keep his options open before committing 2000 Guineas runner-up Sir Percy to the Vodafone Derby.

The Mark Of Esteem colt beat all bar the impressive George Washington in the first Classic of the season but the Lambourn handler is still not sure where his charge will run next.

He is as short as 4-1 favourite for the Epsom Derby with some firms.

“He’s fine after the Guineas but until next week we won’t know for certain,” he said.

“He was a little bit sore after the race and I haven’t got him going again yet since the race so we’ll have to wait and find out next week.

“We are still not sure about his plans yet.

“I think we will keep the options open. Obviously, he is in everything from the Derby, St James’s Palace Stakes and the Eclipse but at this stage we are just going to keep an open mind.”
