Christophe Soumillon will miss the ride aboard Araafa in the Stan James 2000 Guineas after injuring his back in a fall.

The rider was unshipped at Marseille on Friday and he will sit out today’s action before deciding if he is fit to partner Shirocco in tomorrow’s StanJamesUK.com Jockey Club Stakes.

“He had a fall in France yesterday and hurt his back,” said the rider’s agent Shippy Ellis.

“He has had treatment on the problem but he won’t be at Newmarket today.

“He will ride out early tomorrow morning before deciding whether he will be able to ride Shirocco.”

Alan Munro will now take the ride aboard the Jeremy Noseda-trained Araafa in the Guineas.
