Eurotrek, a general 33-1 chance for the John Smith’s Grand National on Saturday, has been ruled out of the Aintree marathon after suffering a setback.

The 10-year-old was one of seven intended runners from the Paul Nicholls stable but the lightly-raced Classic Chase winner will not be making the journey from Somerset to Liverpool.

“Eurotrek is a non-runner in the National as he has an infection in his near-fore front leg,” Nicholls told Teletext.

“My vet has had a look at him and there is no way he is going to be able to run.”

The withdrawal of Eurotrek, who was pulled up in the Red Square Vodka Gold Cup last time out but had easily landed his previous two starts, leaves Paddy Brennan without a ride in the race.
