Testing ground at Haydock

Conditions are expected to be testing for Saturday’s meeting at Haydock, which features the Grade Three Red Square Vodka Gold Cup Chase.

One and a half inches of rainfall in the early part of the week at the Merseyside venue led to clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright changing the official going to heavy on both the chase and hurdle tracks.

“We’ve had a wet start and we’ve gone heavy, which is what we expect it to be on Saturday,” said Tellwright.

“It’s mild now and the forecast is for the odd shower, but there are no problems about the meeting going ahead as scheduled.”
