This afternoon’s meeting at Ayr has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Overnight temperatures reached minus-five degrees leaving clerk of the course Anthea Morshead little alternative other than to call off racing following a 6.45am inspection.

“When we inspected it was minus-five degrees and the forecast was for it drop to as low as minus seven at daybreak,” she explained.

“Parts of the course are like concrete and there was no way no we could race.”

However, officials at the Scottish venue are in bullish mood about the prospects of their seven-race card on Saturday going ahead as scheduled.

“The forecast for Saturday is for little or no frost with rain set to come in,” added Morshead.

“We are therefore hopeful about Saturday’s chances.”
