McGoldrick set for Chandler

Mister McGoldrick is set to take his chance in Saturday’s Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham, ruling out any rise in the weights.

Sue Smith’s nine-year-old ran a gallant second to Al Eile in the Haydock Champion Hurdle Trial last weekend, but the trainer says all is well with the horse and he is an intended runner despite being top weight.

“At the moment all seems well with Mister McGoldrick and if it stays that way he will run,” Smith told the Racing Post.

“I was delighted with his performance at Haydock and the signs are that he hasn’t taken too much out of himself.”

Smith is also set to run the Trevor Hemmings-owned 11-year-old Town Crier, who seems to have improved this season despite his advancing years.

“He was injury-prone as a young horse but has steadily improved and improved so that what we didn’t get then, we are getting now,” Smith continued.

“He’s a big horse and I’m touching wood when I say all seems well with him.

“He won’t mind it if the ground is that bit faster, although I expect they’ll ensure it doesn’t get quick.

“Dominic Elsworth will ride him but I don’t know about a jockey for the other horse.”
