Turner scoops two awards
Hayley Turner stole the show when scooping two awards at the Lesters at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Saturday night.
Turner enjoyed a memorable 2005 when dead-heating with Saleem Golam in the apprentice jockeys’ title race, and was honoured at the lavish Park Lane ceremony when crowned Jockeys Association Of Great Britain Apprentice Jockey of the Year.
She also picked up the Lady Jockey title, with champion rider Jamie Spencer named Flat Jockey of the Year and Timmy Murphy collecting the jumps equivalent.
The latter stepped into the boots of Tony McCoy as David Johnson’s retained rider last season and wrestled the award away from him too, with McCoy having taken the title for the last nine years.
Paddy Brennan was named Conditional Jockey, while Jim Culloty, who partnered Best Mate to three totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup wins, was given a special Jump Jockey Recognition Award following his retirement.
John Carroll was given a similar prize for his achievements on the Flat, while Tony Culhane and Mattie Batchelor were honoured with Rides of the Year for their performances on Toss The Caber and King Harald respectively.
