Turner shines on Willhego

Hayley Turner showed why she was crowned joint champion apprentice with a brilliant ride on Willhego to win division one of the No 5p Rule 4s At Betdirect Handicap at Lingfield.

She produced the 8-1 shot on the outside to cut down the 4-1 favourite Karaoke and score by a neck. Constructor was third, three lengths further away.

Winning trainer John Best said: “That is one of the best rides I have seen round here.

“She did wonders to be there from a bad no 12 draw, but they get on very well together as he can be a difficult horse. She is worth her weight in gold and I have no hesitation in putting her up.”

Kennington gave Norwich trainer Christine Dunnett her 29th winner in her best-ever year when taking division one of the Betdirect Freephone 0800 211 222 Handicap.

In a thrilling race, Tony Culhane got the 6-1 shot home by a length and a quarter from Joyeaux with The Fisio another length and three-quarters away third.

The Fisio darted to the front early on and there were three in a line at the furlong pole until Kennington proved the strongest in the closing stages.

“The boss hasn’t done badly considering she only has 30 horses in the stable and number 30 will soon be coming up I’m sure,” said Oliver Nugent, Dunnett’s travelling head lad.
