Hexham’s meeting tomorrow is subject to a second precautionary inspection this morning.

Incessant showers over the last few days have put the seven-race card in doubt, with a further four millimetres of overnight rain exacerbating the condition of the track.

Clerk of the course Charles Enderby failed to make a decision on the prospect of racing after an initial 8am inspection and will look again later this morning.

“We are still prodding and poking frantically and it’s borderline at the minute,” explained Enderby.

“We’ve gone to heavy ground and it is still possible we might be all right, even though I thought four millimetres (of rain) would scupper us last night.”
