Jayne bows out in style

Godolphin’s Stellar Jayne ended her racing career with a fluent success in the Top Flight Handicap at Aqueduct Racecourse in New York.

The four-year-old filly, who finished fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on her penultimate start, gamely caught the front-running Bohemian Lady late to score by half a length in the Grade Two event on Friday.

Godolphin’s Richard Mettee confirmed that Stellar Jayne had run her last race and will now leave her stable at Belmont Park on Sunday to travel to Sheikh Mohammed’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

He told www.godolphin.com: “We were happy with the result – it is a nice way for her to go out.

“Jerry (Bailey) said that Stellar Jayne moved great on the track.”

Bailey added: “I figured if they out-ran me by any substantial margin, they were going too fast.

“She didn’t really feel comfortable in between horses, so I opted to get her out.

“I reckoned that if everybody ran according to form, I would get there and I did.”

Stellar Jayne retires having won nine times in 22 starts, with three victories in Grade One company.
