Kerrin McEvoy is undergoing cosmetic surgery on a laceration to his forehead following a nasty spill riding in Australia.

McEvoy sustained the injury after he fell from Queen Of The Hill in the Group Two The Age Classic at Flemington.

Godolphin’s number two jockey was blocked for room aboard Lee Freedman’s filly and, with nowhere to go, clipped the heels of Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Cape Of Good Hope, according to a report posted on www.thoroughbrednews.co.nz.

As the Australian rider hit the deck, Queen Of The Hill stepped on the jockey, who suffered a deep wound to his forehead as consequence.

McEvoy has been transferred to Epworth Hospital, where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

“It was a really nasty accident but, thank God, everything seems to be okay given the circumstances,” said Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford.

“All of the scans have come back okay so that’s the important thing. I’ve been in contact with his agent in Australia and his girlfriend and they are going to let me know when he comes out of surgery and what the state of play is.

“I think he got kicked in the face but nothing has been broken, which is very fortunate. He was apparently semi-conscious when it happened but perfectly aware of his surroundings when he went to hospital.

“By all accounts it sounds as if he’s been extremely lucky.”
