Impressive win for Model Son
Model Son continued his education with an impressive victory in the Sparky Gayle Novices' Chase at Carlisle today.
Heather Dalton’s progressive gelding opened his account over fences at Wetherby 18 days ago and followed up in great style.
Paul O’Neill went straight into the lead on the 5-2 favourite and after shrugging off the challenge of Kitski three out, Model Son galloped away to win unchallenged by 19 lengths from See You There.
Shifnal-based Mrs Dalton can do little wrong and was saddling her eighth winner from 18 runners in the last 15 days.
“He’s a lovely horse but he’s very inexperienced still and is quite novicey,” the trainer said. "Paul has given him a good ride and the great thing about it is that he goes on any ground. He goes on good ground and he’s a very strong horse, so he can go through this very soft ground.
“I want to get plenty of experience into him but he jumped well there. We’ll probably look for a race now in late November and long term we might run him in the Feltham. It’s at Sandown this time and that would suit him better than Kempton. He needs a big galloping track.”
