Channon waits on Hazeymm run
Mick Channon will contact owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum before making a decision on Hazeymm’s participation in the Racing Post Trophy on Saturday.
The deteriorating ground at Doncaster has left the West Ilsley trainer in a dilemma as to whether the Marju colt will line up in the Group One contest on Town Moor.
Although Hazeymm is reported to be in fine fettle, the two-year-old has only run on sound surfaces on his three outings to date.
To that end, Channon will ring Sheikh Ahmed on Friday night to gauge his thoughts ahead of the one-mile event.
“I’m absolutely chuffed to pieces with my lad and I couldn’t be happier with him,” said Channon.
“My one concern would be the ground though – I wish he was by Sadler’s Wells because then that wouldn’t be a problem.
“They are saying it’s heavy now but whether that’s the case who knows.
“I’ll give Sheikh Ahmed a ring and we’ll make a decision after that.
“He’s in great form and has already shown his ability so I would be very hopeful of seeing something good from him.”
Hazeymm, who holds an entry in the Vodafone Derby next year, created a favourable impression on his racecourse debut at Newbury before finishing fifth behind George Washington in the Group One Laing O’Rourke National Stakes at the Curragh in September.
He was last seen winning a small prize over a mile at Newbury but Channon would have no qualms about throwing him back in at the deep end, ground permitting.
“It’s a step up again but he’s good enough,” added the trainer.
