Septimus heads O'Brien team

Aidan O’Brien will make a four-pronged attack on Saturday’s Racing Post Trophy as the Irish trainer bids to win the Group One race for a fifth time.

The unbeaten Septimus, the mount of Kieren Fallon, will lead O’Brien’s assault on Doncaster’s two-year-old championship over the round mile.

Jamie Spencer, who preceded Fallon as the number one jockey at Ballydoyle, takes the ride on Arabian Prince while Johnny Murtagh has been booked for Dylan Thomas with Colm O’Donoghue on Mountain.

Ivan Denisovich was the O’Brien team’s only withdrawal at the final 48-hour declaration stage.

John Gosden took out Leo, who goes for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Saturday week instead, leaving a field of nine for the £216,000 (€319,111) prize that could well decide the course of the trainers’ championship.

Sir Michael Stoute has a six-figure lead over O’Brien and runs Leicester maiden winner Best Alibi, who was supplemented for £17,500 (€25,854) at Monday’s confirmation stage.

Mark Johnston saddles Winged Cupid, winner of his two starts, while the Kevin Ryan-trained Palace Episode makes a quick reappearance after finishing fifth in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket last Saturday.

The field is completed by Mick Channon’s Hazeymm and Kilworth, trained by Neville Callaghan.
