Fabre ponders Run options

Andre Fabre will wait a week before deciding whether Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Hurricane Run heads to the Breeders’ Cup.

The three-year-old definitely stays in training next season but connections of the Montjeu colt are currently deliberating another outing in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Belmont Park on October 29.

“That’s the only serious possibility, to go to New York, but we’ll wait a week before making a decision,” said Fabre.

“He has taken the race well but I want to see how he comes out of yesterday’s race and see his next work before committing him to that.”

Hurricane Run cemented his position at the head of the middle-distance pecking order with a scintillating success in the Longchamp Group One yesteday.

Kieren Fallon brought the colt up the inside rail from well behind in the early stages to notch a remarkable two-length victory over Westerner.

Fabre added: “He’s shown that kind of acceleration before but it looked so spectacular because he was squeezed coming out of the gate and had to make up so much ground.”

The French handler, who was recording his sixth Arc success, also sounded an early warning for his rivals as he believes Hurricane Run will improve again over the winter months.

“He’s still a teenager, and I’d expect further improvement from him, it’s not that he’ll get faster, but that he’ll get stronger. And he’s got the right temperament,” said Fabre.

Hurricane Run is the 2-1 favourite with William Hill for the Breeders’ Cup Turf.
