Arch leaves Chapple-Hyam yard

Montgomery’s Arch has left Newmarket-based trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam to continue his career in America.

The three-year-old Arch colt is switching across the Atlantic after failing to build on the excellent campaign he had with Chapple-Hyam as a juvenile in 2004.

He ran a string of fine races as a two-year-old, winning on his racecourse bow at Folkestone and then following up with Group Two glory in the Richmond Stakes.

Montgomery’s Arch also ran with credit in both the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and the Dewhurst, the latter of which saw him finish third behind Shamardal.

Unfortunately, things haven’t gone right for him this season. The horse suffered a minor foot problem that ruled him out of the 2000 Guineas and then he came back sick from the French 2000 Guineas.

His final start for Chapple-Hyam was last Sunday in the Prix de Meautry at Deauville from where he went into quarantine ahead of a move to the USA.

The trainer told www.peterchappleyhyam.com: “Montgomery’s Arch has left the yard and will continue his career in America.

“He was a special two-year-old, winning the Richmond Stakes and finishing placed in the Dewhurst.

“It is a shame that he has so far been unable to recapture the brilliance he showed at two as a three-year-old but perhaps that might have something to do with the fact that at times this year my horses haven’t been right.

“I’m sorry to see him go and hope that he can regain his best form in America.”
